Computer Networking Design UK
When two or more computers
are connected in order to share data, the
system is called computer networking. In building
a proper computer networking design, both
the hardware and software are necessary and
has important roles. In building an ideal
network, suitable for a particular purpose,
one needs to take into account different aspects.
Computer networks can be at a level of a small
home network in UK supported by LAN (Local
Area Network) or a WAN spreading over a whole
country. The World Wide Web is the world’s
largest public WAN (Wide Area Network).
An ideal computer network
design should be based on the layout, capacity
planning, and security plans. Designing a
computer network always follows certain basic
rules. The set of rules governing the setup
of a network is called its topology. Ethernet
is the most popular topology in use in present
times. It consists of computers and peripherals
cabled together in specific ways. There are
two types of Ethernet – Standard and
Fast Ethernet.
It is also important to understand
clients and servers concepts in networking.
Clients and servers perform specific functions
on a network. A server hosts the information,
databases, or applications that are shared
over the network. Client devices request and
receive information over the network. In case
of client/server networking the network design
uses both clients and servers. Another two
significant factors that affect network designs
are the bandwidth and latency supported by
a network.
In computer networking bandwidth
refers to the rate at which data can travel
through a network connection or interface
and is one element that regulates the speed
of a network. Latency refers to the delays
in processing different types of network data.
A network interface card
(NIC) connects the network computer to the
network cabling. Some NICs are pre-installed
inside the computer and others need PCI slots.
In cases of high-speed data transfer, often
a network adapter is needed. Hub is the final
important component required to get through
the network design. A hub is used to aggregate
groups of PCs at a central location. The type
of your network and data transfer support
required decides the type of hub.
In a given budget and the
required type of output, one can think about
various template designs. A symmetric computer
network has all devices that can transmit
and receive data at equal rates. An asymmetric
design supports different proportion of data
or bandwidth in different direction. In this
manner the apt network design is chosen.
